Adding a new ARS server with different OS

In the past i thought you could not add a new ARS server to your config if it was using a different os. i.e. all our servers run 2016 but we want to start using 2022 and need to add a new ARS server. In the past i thought i recalled this not being allowed, anyone know?

Hello,

This is perfectly fine. Your Active Roles Administration Service hosts can all be different Windows OS versions. As far as I am aware, there has never been any such restriction.

Just make sure you check the supported OS's list.

I think i recall what i was thinking for this, you cannot bring a SQL with a new version.

It you are planning to enable Merge Replication, this is true. Microsoft requires that the publisher and subscriber nodes must be running the same version of SQL.

If you want to host your Configuration and Management History databases on different SQL Server versions, that is fine.
