Substring column value on display template column in % notation

Hi all,

I'd like to show the value from the table PersonWantsOrg taking the first 3 charactes from the value in a CustomProperty column.

There is anyway to use any function/script with the % notation?

Something like %CustomProperty01%.Substring (0,3)

If you absolutely need that display template, you could create a schema extension holding the display value calculated by its (VB) Template, and use that in your display template.
