I'm searching the best practice to move a web application from server A (OneIM 7) to server B (OneIM 8.1.4).
I'm thinking to do an export and an import.
There is a best way or some advice to do that
Thanks

Hi,
Assuming you have upgraded the database, then you can run the web installer and choose to load from the database.

Thank you Trevor,
the webapp is on db of the old server yet. How can I export it and import it in the new environment? I can't find any export webapp function.
I'm not aware there's a migration process in this case. In order to use the portal in the new version it needs to be upgraded.

Hello Trevor. You're right.
What I shoud do is:
1) export web application from server A (7.x) to a file
2) import web application to server B (8.1.4) from the file
3) update the web application
4) use it
can I do that in someway? Thanks
Hi Stefano,
I do not understand what the export should contain. The web application (the OneIM specific part) is contained in the database itself and needs no export.
If it is all about the IIS settings? You would need to do it with Microsoft tools.
And by the way, what version of 7 are we talking about?
Hi Markus, thanks for your help.
I have to move the web application from the old server (OneIM 7.1) to a new server (8.1.4 new database too).
I cannot transfer all the database, I need to trasnfer just the web application to the new server.
Thanks
There is no export or import. You just install the web portal on the new server.

I created a new one but I have a lot of customizations in the old web application. I need to move them in the new web application. There is a way to do that?
So, the new database 8.1.4 is not an upgraded one from 7.1?
No, they are two different databases. The 7.1 is in production so I cant touch it. I'm wondering the best way to move the customizations to the new environment.
Hi Stefano,
usually you make transports from Dev to QA to Prod.
So I suggest to transport all the dev 7.1 to 8.1.4, then to QA 8.1.4 and then to Prod 8.1.4, and make all your necessary staging tests and development.
And a transport FROM Prod is always safe.
What I'm not getting here is the following:
Why did you start your 8.1.4 from scratch? Usually if you have your 3 environments, all customizations in dev should have been migrated, and therefore can be used.
Are we all sure here, that we are talking about extensions, object copy's and changed config parms, which are all saved in DialogAEDS?

Geraldine
Hi Geraldine.
My question is simple.
I created and customized a new web application in test env (es. oneid_server/.../)
How can I move the mywebapp in production env? There is a way?
I read "Exporting a module from the database to the hard drive" in https://support.oneidentity.com/it-it/technical-documents/identity-manager/8.1.4/web-designer-reference-guide/14 but it's unclear. Could I move the solution to filesystem and them import it to a different server?
Thanks
Hi Stefano,
then you should transport your changes to the new db, like you you transport all your other changes. And install a new Web Application on the new server. That's the recommended way.
If you have made changes to e.g. the web config, you have to make them manually again. I do not recommend to copy it, as this will end in errors.
HTH,
Geraldine
