SharePoint connector

Question

Hi all, 
 I am setting up a SharePoint farm connector on One Identity Manager version 8.1.5. 
 Reading the documentation, it is written that it is necessary to set up a synchronization server with the SharePoint farm, the One Identity Manager Service , the SharePoint connector, and the Synchronization Editor. 
 Is it mandatory to set up the synchronization server? Can't we create the connector without installing the One Identity Manager Service on the SharePoint server?

If this is a security issue I would suggest to deploy additional Sharepoint server in the farm just for this task. Any other way would be slow and possibly not well supported.
