IdentityManager to ApiServer - handling migration

Just wondering if anyone has good ideas for managing migration of the legacy Web Portal to the new Angular Portal. Version not a big player in this as its more of a generic question, but we are currently on 9.0 LTS CU3 for context.

With well over 10,000 requestables and several custom interfaces that we need to migrate, we expect this process to occur over an extended period. We are also trying to implement a bunch of initiatives that rely on the enhancements of the Angular Portal. Its unrealistic to expect a Big Bang implementation.

My Question is really more related to the requestables during the migration. We would have scenarios where we need certain requestables to only be available in the Old OR New portal, not both at the same time (especially where some of our initiatives require the modern Request Properties functionaltiy that only seems to work in Angular and is completely ignored in the Old portal which we can't have happening as users would be able to request products without supplying required infromation for processes to function). These are at the requestable level and wouldn't be segregated at the user level, so can't contemplate Shops with different Customer queries (and no way in the query to identify the portal that the user is accessing from).

Has anyone worked through this problem and come up with a solution or a list of possible solutions?

  • Well, the overnight announcement definitly increases the urgency of our work while also trying to juggle a bunch of other required initiatives.

  • The confirmed deprecation of the old portal. It only gives us 1 year to complete the migration, that is not a lot of time.

  • Judging by the announcement, you have more than a year to migrate and version 9.2 still supports Web Designer so, with 9.2.3 you will have enough time to plan the migration. But yes, you should start evaluating the transition.

The deprecation of Web Designer has been communicated for a long time now and the limited support for the 9.0 LTS has been extended to July 2027.

I hope that this helps to clarify the matter.

The current release is 9.2.1, and based on our projected future release schedules, 2 more maintenance releases (9.2.2 and 9.2.3) will be released over the next year.
Version 9.2.3 will be provided full support until October 2026, and limited support until July 2027.
For our customers that are on 9.0 LTS (long term support), the limited support for that version will also be extended until July 2027 to allow for time to migrate.

  • You missed my earlier detail that we are on LTS, and they will continue to only run LTS versions. Upgrades of all 4 environments are significant pieces of work, hence aligning to LTS.

So, 9.0 LTS limits support on the lifecycle website as 2025-09 (with LTS support already limited - i.e. only functional defects are resolved, this seems like an odd setting). With 10.0 LTS being due late 2025, then late 2025 we need to upgrade to 10.0 and to do that we must already be on the new portal.

    Therefore, 1 year to complete.
