Synchronization Editor Workflow Step configuration: Synchronization direction in case when ...

Suppose I have defined a synchronization step as follows:

  1. Under the "General" tab "Synchronization in direction" is set to "Target System"
  2. In the "processing" tab I have defined update, insert and delete in both directions for cases A2, B and C (expert view).
  3. The mapping rules of the synchronized object allow synchronization in both directions

In which direction does the synchronization step now synchronize?

According to the configuration under "General", it should only synchronize to the "target system"

However, under "Procecssing"-Tab I have allowed both directions as synchronization direction

Why isn't it possible to specify "both directions"  under "General" "Synchronization in direction"?

  • The workflowstep can only "actively" run in one direction at a time, so you will need to set a predefined direction for the workflowstep on startup.

The first option is to overwrite the default synchronization direction set by the workflow and change the workflowstep from "Use workflow default" to "One Identity Manager" or "Target system"

Or if you want your workflowstep to sync in both direction then leave the workflowstep set to "Use workflow default" and set the workflow sync = "Defined when run". Based on these settings the overall workflow and the workflowstep direction is defined in the startup configuration. Now you can create two startup configurations one that syncs left (OneIM) and one that syncs to the right (TS).

    - Sync to TS uses the methods where the arrow points >
    - Sync to OneIM uses the methods where the arrow points <
methods = the entries you add in the processing tab of the workflowstep

In export mode: keep in mind, that some of the methods configuration possibilities (arrow directions) that are allowed could make no sense and would simply do nothing!

  • Hi Niels,

thank you very much for your answer.

The crucial hint in my opionion is: "The workflowstep can only 'actively' run in one direction at a time"

    AND

"In export mode: keep in mind, that some of the methods configuration possibilities (arrow directions) that are allowed could make no sense and would simply do nothing!"

You proposed to create two Startupconfigs with each of the two possible directions.

Thats fine and would work i think.

I prefer to create two workflow steps within the same workflow for the same mapping, one syncing left and one syncing right.
