How do I make the request reason mandatory in Identity Manager 7.0.1?

I want to force customers to add a reason when they request a product in the IT shop. I have found two solutions that almost work in version 7.0.1, but fall short (creating a new Request Property and setting the min length of the OrderReason property in ShoppingCartItem)

Any other ideas?

 

Edit: Just a little more explanation...creating the new Request Property works, but ends up presenting two Reason fields on the Shopping Cart screen. Setting the min length of the OrderReason property in ShoppingCartItem within the Schema Editor causes the IT Shop to check for a reason BEFORE entering the Shopping Cart screen, causing an error before the customer has a chance to add a reason.
